“I’m a 32E, and every time I would go to a store, it was the same issue,” the 32-year-old Chelsea resident tells The Post. “The things that I really loved that were beautiful were never big enough for me. And the things that were big enough for me were like my grandmother’s bras, and I was like, ‘Well, this doesn’t inspire me to a) want to buy it and b) put it on in the morning and feel great about myself.’
“I was like… ‘There has to be a better option.’”
Well, she’s made one.
In spring, Tolliver will launch Liberté, a lingerie line featuring flirty, feminine bras crafted from soft, moisture-wicking Italian fabrics, with sizes ranging from 32C to 38H. Available at LiberteNY.com, the brand will also feature a couple of thongs and briefs.
It’s been a five-year process for Tolliver, who studied fashion design and marketing at Columbia College before pursuing modeling full-time. She and her small, four-person team have experienced production delays, thrown out countless samples and suffered creepy comments from potential male investors.
Yet, she calls the project her passion, particularly since so many women share her frustrations. According to a 2013 survey by the lingerie brand Intimacy, the average bra size in the US is a 34DD.
“I feel like it has to be perfect for all the women out there who are told that anything larger than a D just doesn’t exist,” she says. “I want to give women that freedom of ‘No, I don’t need to conform — here is a brand that is here to embrace me.’”
Tolliver has been self-conscious about her body her whole life. As a young tomboy growing up outside of Chicago, she first picked up a sewing needle because she couldn’t find clothes that fit her tall, athletic frame.
“I was making my own sweatpants to play sports in because I couldn’t find any,” she says, laughing. Yet people began commenting on her height and told her she should try modeling. At 15, she went to an open call at Ford Models and was offered a contract on the spot. In 2008, she moved to New York City to pursue modeling full-time.
That’s when she started to gain weight. She says she found herself “fighting tooth and nail” to maintain her size 2 figure, but in 2009 she switched to plus-size modeling. It was just as tough. Clients claimed she wasn’t big enough, so she began gorging on pasta and wine every evening and stopped working out to fit the desired mold.
“I found myself being just as unhealthy as when I was trying to be a size 2,” she says.
“I just let my body go into a natural state of existence, which leaves me around a size 6,” says Tolliver, who is currently represented by Elite Models. “I’m not altering my body for my clients.”
As a model who isn’t quite “standard” and isn’t quite plus, Tolliver books a lot of lingerie gigs, which tend to call for curvier bodies. And she’s found that most brands offer either only tiny cups or too-big plus-sized brassieres. As a result, she’s found herself uncomfortably squeezing into a skimpy top — or trying to fill out the bigger options by pinning the band or adding padding into the cups.
“I actually ended up learning a lot about how a bra should fit from having to do so many alterations on set,” she says.
In 2013, she started researching bra patterns.
Even with her fashion experience, Tolliver soon realized that designing a bra — particularly one that had to support larger sizes — was way more complicated than sewing a dress.
“It’s a load-bearing object,” she says, comparing it to architecture. “I had no idea how to create something that would be functional.”
By 2015, she was talking with local manufacturers about turning her patterns into prototypes. But while she loved the design and production process, she found raising money dispiriting.
“Being a woman who is young, and a model starting a lingerie brand, I ended up being in conversations [with potential investors] that had nothing to do with business,” she says.
“They would ask, ‘Oh, are you wearing your pieces, can I see them?’ Or, ‘Can I be your quality-control manager? Can I shoot B-roll at your photo shoots?’ Just these horrendous comments,” she says. “It was exhausting and offensive.”
After raising nearly $35,000 through Kickstarter last October, however, Tolliver is ready to shake up the lingerie industry, and make a lot of women happy.
“Beautiful lingerie shouldn’t be reserved for a select few,” she says. “For lingerie, it’s important to have something aesthetically pleasing, because it can set the tone of the whole day… I want women to walk out the door with a feeling of being unstoppable.”

]]>Yet the 5-foot-9 curly-haired beauty has had major issues finding a bra that fits her.
“I’m a 32E, and every time I would go to a store, it was the same issue,” the 32-year-old Chelsea resident tells The Post. “The things that I really loved that were beautiful were never big enough for me. And the things that were big enough for me were like my grandmother’s bras, and I was like, ‘Well, this doesn’t inspire me to a) want to buy it and b) put it on in the morning and feel great about myself.’
“I was like… ‘There has to be a better option.’”
Well, she’s made one.
In spring, Tolliver will launch Liberté, a lingerie line featuring flirty, feminine bras crafted from soft, moisture-wicking Italian fabrics, with sizes ranging from 32C to 38H. Available at LiberteNY.com, the brand will also feature a couple of thongs and briefs.
It’s been a five-year process for Tolliver, who studied fashion design and marketing at Columbia College before pursuing modeling full-time. She and her small, four-person team have experienced production delays, thrown out countless samples and suffered creepy comments from potential male investors.
Yet, she calls the project her passion, particularly since so many women share her frustrations. According to a 2013 survey by the lingerie brand Intimacy, the average bra size in the US is a 34DD.
“I feel like it has to be perfect for all the women out there who are told that anything larger than a D just doesn’t exist,” she says. “I want to give women that freedom of ‘No, I don’t need to conform — here is a brand that is here to embrace me.’”

]]>And what made this display truly beautiful was that it was made up of a very diverse cast of models who walked on what they called “The Real Catwalk.”
“I’ve been a body positive activist for almost a year now, and the more this whole BoPo movement grows, the more creative ideas I get about women empowerment,” the 32-year-old New Yorker tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
“So this #theREALcatwalk was brewing and in discussion for months now, and I’d organized two small scale all-inclusive lingerie runway shows this year, but this time it was different.”
The timing is no coincidence. Friend and fellow curvy model thought it would be “brilliant” to stage it right after the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, an event that promotes a largely unrealistic and unobtainable body type.
However, KhrystyAna made it very clear that it was “NOT an anti Victoria’s Secret Runway Show, it was pro ANYONE can catwalk showcase". But if that’s the case: Why now?
“This is exactly when so many of us ladies feel so discouraged about our bodies and faces. We look at these beautiful VS models and get deeply affected, sometimes not even consciously, by the overwhelming standard of one kind of beauty," she said.
"Neglecting to represent the many other types or ideals of beauty can make us feel unattractive, as if we need to change to become more like those girls,” she said, echoing the complaints of many women including fellow models Tabria Majors and Ashley Graham.
In just a few days, she pulled the show together. “A lot of models from our agency were very excited to walk this ‘flash mob’ style fashion show,” KhrystyAna, who originally hails from Siberia, recalls.
She cast a wide net when looking for models to participate.
“Body positivity to me means full on inclusivity — it’s not just about curvy women, but about every woman — petite, bold, transgender, women in wheel chairs, all different skin tones, very fit, thin, freckles, women with various disabilities — ALL deserve to feel beautiful,” she explained.
“I didn’t want to make it just about the curvier women, and I would only go full out organizing like this if I knew it was ALL inclusive,” which it ended up being.
The end result was a bunch of stunning women strutting their stuff in one of the biggest tourist hotspots in the entire world wearing slinky lace one-pieces and velvet bodysuits to matching bra and panty sets to corsets to velvet leotards.
“There will be transgender women, women of different ages and sexual orientation, full made up face and some with no make up, waxed or unwaxed legs, vegans and carnivores,” KhrystyAna wrote on Instagram when promoting the show a few days before. And there were tons of excited and supportive onlookers.
“We had so many pedestrians stop by to see what was happening,” she remembers, noting that the show positively received.
“No bullies whatsoever, and I saw so many genuine smiles on women and men watching us do something incredibly vulnerable yet empowering. It felt safe, as if the world is really ready to embrace the only standard of beauty there is — which is being authentically yourself, in your bones, in your skin, whatever path you are on; getting old, younger, smaller, taller, thicker, thinner.”
The participants were equally moved by this experience.
“I’ll do anything to support women…including catwalk in lingerie down Times Square,” Lily Chen, co-founder of lingerie brand Thistle & Spire, captioned a video of the event on Instagram.
“Together we walked to reinforce one beauty standard: BEING YOU. Because being you is the definition of beauty. It was cold, but my heart was warm surrounded by the fire of all these powerful women.”
Another model, Michelle Quan, shared photos of the experience, with the caption, “This showcase is definitely a STATEMENT in the industry…To every woman, little girl, teen or older woman (men too) reading this YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!! Love your body that you are blessed with! Love your legs, scars, marks, arms, tummy, rolls, abs, ab-rolls (haha), the jiggle and the firm -WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL…Every single year these little girls stare in amazement at the #VSmodels & these girls are looking up to models and people running the fashion world. They see only ONE body type come down that runway forcing them to believe the only beauty standard is 34-25-34… WRONG. My measurements are 38-35-45 and I believe that models have a responsibility to encourage #bodypositivity #bodylove#selflove ! I look just as good as any VS Angel and so do YOU!”
KhrystyAna cannot stop beaming after the resounding success.
“We hope this is not the last #theRealCatwalk we do. I’ve been getting messages from women from various countries requesting to do this in their cities. The truth is, anyone can do it. It’s for all women!”

“Body positivity to me means full on inclusivity — it’s not just about curvy women, but about every woman — petite, bold, transgender, women in wheel chairs, all different skin tones, very fit, thin, freckles, women with various disabilities — ALL deserve to feel beautiful,” she explained.
“I didn’t want to make it just about the curvier women, and I would only go full out organizing like this if I knew it was ALL inclusive,” which it ended up being.
The end result was a bunch of stunning women strutting their stuff in one of the biggest tourist hotspots in the entire world wearing slinky lace one-pieces and velvet bodysuits to matching bra and panty sets to corsets to velvet leotards.
“There will be transgender women, women of different ages and sexual orientation, full made up face and some with no make up, waxed or unwaxed legs, vegans and carnivores,” KhrystyAna wrote on Instagram when promoting the show a few days before. And there were tons of excited and supportive onlookers.
“We had so many pedestrians stop by to see what was happening,” she remembers, noting that the show positively received.
“No bullies whatsoever, and I saw so many genuine smiles on women and men watching us do something incredibly vulnerable yet empowering. It felt safe, as if the world is really ready to embrace the only standard of beauty there is — which is being authentically yourself, in your bones, in your skin, whatever path you are on; getting old, younger, smaller, taller, thicker, thinner.”
The participants were equally moved by this experience.
“I’ll do anything to support women…including catwalk in lingerie down Times Square,” Lily Chen, co-founder of lingerie brand Thistle & Spire, captioned a video of the event on Instagram.
“Together we walked to reinforce one beauty standard: BEING YOU. Because being you is the definition of beauty. It was cold, but my heart was warm surrounded by the fire of all these powerful women.”

For Bangalore-based Actoserba Active Wholesale Pvt. Ltd, which operates Zivame, this was the first-ever dip in revenue since its launch in 2011. In FY17, Zivame recorded net sales of Rs 52.9 crore, down about 15% from Rs 62.6 crore in the previous fiscal.
Losses at both these heavily-funded companies widened marginally. Zivame posted a loss of Rs 57.6 crore for FY17, wider than Rs 54.1 crore in the year prior. Clovia’s losses widened slightly to Rs 10.2 crore from Rs 9.6 crore in FY16.
However, Clovia did a better job at containing operating loss. The figure stood at Rs 8.6 crore in FY17, down from Rs 9.1 crore in the year prior. Zivame’s operating loss widened to Rs 56.5 crore in FY17 from Rs 53.3 crore in FY16.
To be sure, the business models of the two companies are not completely identical. Clovia sells its own branded merchandise while Zivame is primarily a marketplace, with some of its brands thrown in.
Pankaj Vermani, co-founder and chief executive of Clovia, told VCCircle that the company was expecting 60% growth in revenue in FY17. “Demonetisation hit us. Usually in November, sales start to pick up…we lost substantial numbers, but we are happy. It was decent growth,” he said.

The company’s net loss had widened to Rs 54.1 crore in 2015-16 from Rs 29.5 crore in 2014-15, according to data sourced by VCCEdge, the research arm of VCCircle, from the RoC. It had reported 38% growth in net sales at Rs 62.6 crore and a 57% jump in total expenses to Rs 118.8 crore during the period.

Miss Lim advertises online sparingly and about half of her sales comes from the stalls she sets up at flea markets and pop-ups.
She sells nearly 300 pieces a month, with many purchased by repeat customers.
"I thought selling lingerie would be a unique idea. People are also now more aware of different styles of lingerie, not just the usual push-up and wired bras," said the 29-year-old.
Intimate wear is now making its mark on the local online fashion industry.
One of the pioneers is Perk By Kate, which was launched in 2012.
The brand, best known for its own line of padded bralettes, saw an increase in sales last year to hit a six-figure amount, said founder Kate Low.
The online site initially featured international lingerie brands such as Eberjey and For Love & Lemons before it launched its own label in 2014.
"When we started almost six years ago, purchasing lingerie online was pretty radical but these days, consumers take to online purchases quite readily," said the 32-year-old.
Market research company Euromonitor found that the value of the underwear market in Singapore has risen from $245.5 million in 2011 to $287.2 million last year - a 17 per cent increase.
Ms Elfaine Tan decided to concentrate on intimate wear when she ventured into the e-commerce scene with the launch of I'm In last year.
Ms Tan was one of the co-founders EK Media, a social media agency that was sold to SingPost in 2013.
Business at I'm In has been brisk, with a 10 to 20 per cent increase in sales month-on-month.
But the 29-year-old said: "When it comes to fashion, several brands dominate the scene so it is harder to shine.
"And when it comes to underwear, many customers want to have a feel of the product before buying it."
I'm In sells a wide range of underwear, including bras, bralettes and panties.
Singapore Polytechnic marketing and retail lecturer Lucas Tok said that while lingerie might be a difficult product to sell online, an e-commerce store has its advantages, such as privacy.
He explained: "Consumers may sometimes feel insecure while browsing (for lingerie) in a bricks and mortar store (but) an e-commerce setting allows consumers to browse freely without the perceived judgment they receive from onlookers and bystanders - sometimes even from shop assistants."
Some brands also focus on customer service to draw and retain customers.
Before Perk By Kate had its own studio, Ms Low allowed customers to try the lingerie at her home. She also "refurbishes" old bralettes at no extra cost.

Purchase clear shaving gel made for pubic hair so you can see where you are shaving, an aftershave astringent with salicylic acid, stencils, a stencil pencil, a small comb, scissors, a mirror and a razor with new blades.
Decide if you need to trim your pubic hair before shaving. It makes the entire process much easier if hair is trimmed to about a 1/4 inch or however long your want your design shape to be.

Rinse your razor several times during shaving to get the smoothest, cleanest look.

Decide if you need to trim your pubic hair before shaving. It makes the entire process much easier if hair is trimmed to about a 1/4 inch or however long your want your design shape to be.
Soften your pubic hair and skin by soaking in a warm bubble bath or by taking a long shower. Exfoliate your pubic hair and upper thighs to prevent ingrown hairs. When you are finished, dry yourself completely.

Of course Farrah herself models all of the looks — in a series of photos that include a piano and multiple appearances by a horse.
The use of a horse has raised a few eyebrows on social media, as many openly pondered the connection between the animal and intimate apparel . Personally, I don’t have an issue with using a horse in the product photos, but I DO have an issue with the fact that it wasn’t Starburst the miniature horse!
Lingerie is just the latest of numerous business ventures for Farrah, the more risque of which (adult streaming videos and sex toys ) reportedly led to her controversial “fake firing” by Teen Mom OG producers. Something Wicked, which was taken over by managing partner Steff McGrath last year has gone from strength to strength, doubling its target for wholesale in the last six months.
Sales have quadrupled in the last quarter, having recently secured a listing in London fashion house, Coco De Mer and boutique, Dolci Follie.
Something Wicked is also now selling in Germany, Netherlands and Austria as well as the UK.
The firm's design and manufacturing process happens in a studio in Leeds and Yorkshire-based designers have created three of the latest ranges with a team of local seamstresses and garment technicians creating the finished pieces.
Something Wicked has also been accepted to attend the Salon de la lingerie show in Paris next January, the largest global trade show for lingerie.
McGrath said: "We’ve achieved so much in the last year, the website revamp, creation of shoppable videos and new innovative product ranges have been the key drivers of our growth. We’re delighted with our listings success so far as we’ve exceeded initial expectations.
"What sets us apart from our competitors is our production process. From idea to creation, we make to demand and manufacture everything here in our studio. We don’t outsource huge orders abroad like many other brands do.
She added: "We pride ourselves on sourcing only the best, premium materials from Great Britain. We know our customers; successful and confident women, with a work hard, play hard mantra, and they only want the most premium, beautiful materials close to their skin.
"We’ve created some great partnerships, including working with an independent bee keeper in London. He provides us with our own exclusive, organic wax blend with 100 per cent natural ingredients, this enables us to maintain the highest level of care for intimate leather products."
